\nthe United Nations, and unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and
\nextraterrestrial life<\/em><\/p>\n

President <\/span>Barack Hussein Obama<\/a> and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton<\/a> both face an immediate, international cross-roads at the United Nations on whether or not to honor a U.N. General Assembly<\/a> (UNGA) Decision on releasing U.S. secret files on unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and extraterrestrial life.  <\/p>\n

On January 21, 2009, Obama stated<\/a>, "Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this Presidency." He issued a Memorandum on Transparency<\/a>
\nthat promised that "my Administration is committed to creating an
\nunprecedented level of openness in Government. We will work together to
\nensure the public trust and establish a system of transparency, public
\nparticipation, and collaboration. Openness will strengthen our
\ndemocracy and promote efficiency and effectiveness in Government." 
\nObama directed all U.S. government departments to abide by the terms on
\nthis Memorandum.<\/p>\n

U.N. General Assembly Decision 33\/426<\/a>,
\nadopted December 18, 1978, "invites interested Member States to take
\nappropriate steps to coordinate on a national level scientific research
\nand investigation into extraterrestrial life, including unidentified
\nflying objects (UFOs), and to inform the Secretary-General of the
\nobservations, research and evaluation of such activities."<\/p>\n
