The professor emeritus believes in the presence of extraterrestrials on Earth.<\/em><\/p>\n
YOUNGSTOWN \u2014 Stephen A. Graf says most people are skeptics when they
\ncome into his \u201cExtraterrestrials, Meditation and Free Energy\u201d class at
\nYoungstown State University, but that trend is reversed by the time
\nthey finish the course.<\/p>\nGraf, a retired psychology professor, truly believes that visitors
\nfrom other worlds come to Earth and monitor mankind, although he said
\nhe\u2019s never had a face-to-face encounter with one of those beings.<\/p>\nHe has, he said, had an encounter that involved two unidentified
\nflying craft. This was during a training seminar conducted by Dr.
\nSteven M. Greer, a physician who has also been described as a
\n\u201cufologist\u201d and who claims to have had personal face-to-face contact
\nwith an extraterrestrial being. Greer also claims to have devised a way
\nto contact ETs through a process involving meditation.<\/p>\nGraf uses in his course a text written by Greer and has been to
\nseven of Greer\u2019s training sessions conducted in areas of the world
\nwhere high numbers of UFO sightings have been reported. The two UFOs
\nthat appeared during one of those sessions flew at a very high speed
\nfrom horizon to horizon in just four to six seconds, he said.<\/p>\nGreer has produced \u201ca credible body of testimony\u201d supporting the existence of extraterrestrials, he said.<\/p>\n
Graf, who holds a degree in psychology from Miami University, a
\nmaster\u2019s in psychology from Ohio State University and a doctorate of
\nphilosophy in experimental psychology from Ohio State, joined the YSU
\nfaculty in 1970.<\/p>\nHe retired in 2005 and developed the \u201cSpecial Topic\u201d course
\n\u201cExtraterrestrials, Meditation and Free Energy,\u201d which he has taught
\ntwice so far. It\u2019s also scheduled for this spring term, which begins
\nJan. 12. Jack Auman, his brother-in-law and a retired school teacher,
\nassists with the three-credit-hour course.<\/p>\nYSU is the only university in the United States offering this
\nparticular combination of topics, Graf said, noting that most academics
\nhave avoided serious consideration of an extraterrestrial presence
\nbecause of several factors, including the fear of ridicule.<\/p>\nThe meditation portion of the course focuses on developing a frame
\nof mind that allows humans to operate on the extraterrestrials\u2019 level,
\nGraf said, explaining that what is known about extraterrestrials is
\nthat they are very spiritually involved.<\/p>\nFree energy, he said, is the notion that the universe contains
\nenough energy to avoid the use of other forms of energy \u2014 such as
\nfossil fuels \u2014 if we can find out how to harness it.<\/p>\nGraf said he developed the course to offer something \u201con the cutting edge.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said he believes extraterrestrials have been monitoring
\nactivities on Earth for the last 40 to 60 years and are benevolent
\ncreatures, not the evil, scary type portrayed in the entertainment
\nmedia. Most reported sightings have indicated the extraterrestrials
\nhave a head, two arms, two eyes and two legs, but they don\u2019t always
\nhave a human form.<\/p>\nHe also believes they have a policy of nonintervention and are
\nsecretive because we haven\u2019t developed spiritually and sociologically
\nto their level.<\/p>\nIt would be very destructive to the world\u2019s economy if their
\ntechnology and adaptation of \u201cfree energy\u201d suddenly became available to
\nmankind, he said, explaining why the global military-industrial complex
\nseeks to keep their presence here a secret.<\/p>\nHe said he believes that there have been crashes and shoot-downs of
\nextraterrestrial craft and that government agencies have
\n\u201creverse-engineered\u201d some of those craft. Flights of those alien
\nreproduction vehicles may be responsible for some UFO sightings, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\nBoth traditional and nontraditional students have signed up for his
\ncourse, Graf said, adding that it is usually the older, nontraditional
\nstudent who is skeptical about the existence of extraterrestrials.<\/p>\nThe course gives participants a good dose of separation of spin from
\nfiction and trying to get at the truth, what constitutes good evidence
\nand what constitutes believability, he said.<\/p>\nThe lessons learned can be carried over into other aspects of one\u2019s
\nlife and needn\u2019t be limited to the issue of extraterrestrials, he said.<\/p>\nTo register for the course, listed as Special Topics course number
