Texas Official Demands Answers About Alleged UFO<\/h2>\n

STEPHENVILLE (CBS 11 News) \u2015 <\/span>Dozens
\nof Stephenville residents reported seeing UFOs in the area in January.
\nAt first, the military reported there were no aircraft in the area that
\nnight. Two weeks later, officials said they were conducting training
\nexercises in the area. <\/p>\n

Now some city officials want to know if a government exercise was being performed, why they weren’t notified ahead of time. <\/p>\n

"I
\nwant to know why public officials weren’t notified of a large military
\noperation in our area," said Stephenville City Councilmember Mark
\nMurphy. He has filed a complaint with U. S. Air Force and the Federal
\nAviation Administration, demanding answers. <\/p>\n

"My main concern
\nis public safety," said Councilman Murphy. "I want to make sure that if
\nanything like this is going on, people are alerted." <\/p>\n

But residents were mixed on what the public needs to know. <\/p>\n

"I
\nthink the government needs to let us know when we need to know, but on
\nsomething like this, it’s not appropriate," said Stephenville resident
\nCliff McMinn. <\/p>\n

"I think the city has a right to know," said
\nDell Eastwood, a resident of Stephenville. "I guess the federal
\ngovernment doesn’t think they do." <\/p>\n

According to a local
\naviation expert, the military must communicate with the FAA, but they
\nare not required to contact city officials. Councilman Murphy thinks
\nthat rule should be changed. <\/p>\n

"Just so we know they’re going to be operating in this area," he said. "It’s only a courtesy – intergovernmental courtesy." <\/p>\n

Councilman
\nMurphy says he doesn’t need to know details about what the military was
\ndoing over the skies of Stephenville that night, he just wants
\ncorrective action to be taken. <\/p>\n
