In the night of April 4th 1990, not far away from Verviers, at Petit-Rechain, two witnesses, Mrs. S. and Mr. P. M., saw three round shining lights in the sky, forming a triangle with broken angles, with a luminous circle in the centre of the triangle, the whole being almost stationary and producing no sound at all, except what could be considered a kind of humming sound.
Mrs. S saw the strange lights at something like 150 meters altitude. She then ran to look for Mr. P. who took his Reflex camera en who finally took the now famous negative of Petit–Rechain.
The members of the Sobeps – who use investigation methods based on the scientific checking of facts, are reliable. The negative is then analyzed by Marc Acheroy, nuclear physicist at the Royal Military School; by the professor François Louange, who works at the private laboratory for digital imagery and who works with the CNRS and the French Army; by the photo service of the Royal institute of artistic heritage of Belgium which owns a high-performance photo laboratory; en by the doctor Richard Haines who works for Nasa in California. Result, after years of analysis: the negative of Petit-Rechain is not a fake.
Ten years later the Sobeps decided to give the negative to the Optical Institute of Orsay (France) for a second expert opinion. The purpose of that step was to analyze the negative with more recent softwares and to compare the results with the old data. Result: the negative is not a fake; but they discovered something very surprising which until then was invisible: a whirl of particles in motion around the object. Today nobody knows exactly the origin of these particles. It seems to be a propulsion system of advanced technology.
On the basis of old analysis and current investigations, it was not confirmed that the negative of Petit-Rechain was a proof of extraterrestrials but it allowed to lift the veil on a subject which has always been considered as imaginary.
Nicolas Thiry
© La Dernière Heure 2008

The Belgian Wave : almost 20 years

On March 30th 1990, in the middle of the Belgian wave, the Belgian Air Force opened a file after the chasing of a UFO by two F-16 above the Belgian territory. Two radars on the ground had located and recorded a signal without knowing its origin. The two F-16 chased the UFO but the signal suddenly disappeared.

The copy of the radar recordings of the two F-16 has been analyzed by the physicist Auguste Meesen and then by people from Washington (who confirmed that none of their planes flew above the Belgian territory). The military still can’t explain what went on that day and have no explanation whatsoever as for the origin of the chased object.

Patrick Ferryn, documentary director and long standing ufologist, has reopened the file with his friends of the Copeps (the Sobeps was dissolved six months ago and was replaced by the Cobeps which is not a non profit-making association any more).

They wish to make further analysis so that we can come to new hypotheses. But they do not only focus on the file of the F-16. They also gather documents on the Belgian wave and question new witnesses near Eupen en are looking for experts who would wish to work on negatives and videos with more recent technologies (in particular a color film from a pilot of Air France).

It is now almost 20 years that the Belgian UFO wave took place. Since then a lot of organizations have seen the light in the US (Project Disclosure), in France, in England, with the intention of disclosing to the public the information gathered by the army and the government.
