&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span face=\"Georgia\">&nbsp; &nbsp; On December 26,<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;2004 a magnitude <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/print\/0%2C3858%2C5123531-115399%2C00.html\">9.3<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;earthquake <\/a>occurred in the Indian Ocean off the coast of<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Sumatra in Malaysia.&nbsp; It caused a powerful tsunami which<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;devastated coastal regions of many countries leaving over 240,000<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;people either dead or missing.&nbsp; It was the worst tsunami<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;to affect this area since the 1883 explosion of Krakatao.&nbsp; The<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;earthquake that produced it was so strong that it exceeded by<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;a factor of 10 the next most powerful earthquake to occur anywhere<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;in the past 25 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span face=\"Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">\u2022<\/span><span face=\"Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\" style=\"font-size: 0.6em;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><span face=\"Georgia\">Indonesian 9.3 Richter earthquake: <br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;(Universal Time)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span face=\"Georgia\">It is then with some alarm that we learn<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;that <em>just 44.6 hours later<\/em> gamma ray telescopes orbiting<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;the Earth picked up the arrival of the brightest gamma ray burst<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<em>ever recorded<\/em>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span face=\"Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">\u2022<\/span><span face=\"Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\" style=\"font-size: 0.6em;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><span face=\"Georgia\">Gamma ray burst arrival: <br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span><\/center><br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span face=\"Georgia\">&nbsp; &nbsp; This gamma ray<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;blast was 100 times more intense than any burst that had been<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;previously recorded, equaling the brightness of the full Moon,<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;but radiating most of its energy at gamma ray wavelengths.&nbsp; Gamma<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;ray counts spiked to a maximum in 1.5 seconds and then declined<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;over a 5 minute period with 7.57 second pulsations.&nbsp; The<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;blast temporarily changed the shape the Earth&#8217;s ionosphere, distorting<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;the transmission of long-wavelength radio signals.&nbsp; See<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;repeater star, SGR 1806-20, a neutron star 20 kilometers in diameter<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;which rotates once every 7.5 seconds, matching the GRB pulsation<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;period.&nbsp; SGR 1806-20 is located about 10 degrees northeast<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;of the Galactic center and about 20,000 to 32,000 light years<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;from us, or about as far away as the Galactic center.&nbsp; (Originally,<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;it had been thought to be 45,000 light years from us. but new<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;results place it closer.) The outburst released more energy<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;in a tenth of a second than the Sun emits in 100,000 years.&nbsp; Other<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;gamma ray bursts have been detected whose explosions were intrinsically<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;more powerful than this one at the source of the explosion, but<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;since those explosions originated in other galaxies tens of thousands<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;of times more distant, the bursts were not nearly as bright when<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;they reached our solar system.&nbsp; What makes the December<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;27th gamma ray burst unique is that it is the first time that<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;a burst this <em>bright<\/em> has been observed, one that also happens<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;to originate from within our own Galaxy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span face=\"Georgia\">&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Astronomers<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;have theorized that gamma ray bursts might travel in association<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;with gravity wave bursts.&nbsp; In the course of their flight<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;through space, gamma rays would be deflected by gravitational<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;fields and would be scattered by dust and cosmic ray particles<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;they encountered, so they would be expected to travel slightly<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;slower than their associated gravity wave burst which would pass<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;through space unimpeded.&nbsp; After a 45,000 year light-speed<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;journey, a gamma ray burst arrival delay of 44.6 hours would<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;not be unexpected.&nbsp; It amounts to a delay of just one part<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;in 9 million.&nbsp; So if the gravity wave traveled at the speed<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;of light (c), the gamma ray burst would have averaged a speed<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;of 0.99999989 c, just 0.11 millionths slower.&nbsp; There is<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;also the possibility that at the beginning of its journey the<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;gravity wave may have had a superluminal speed; see textbox below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<center><span face=\"Georgia\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" align=\"bottom\" src=\"http:\/\/www.etheric.com\/GalacticCenter\/GRB-2.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Artist&#8217;s conception, courtesy of NASA<\/span><\/center><br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span face=\"Georgia\">&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; The 9.3<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Richter earthquake was ten times stronger than any other earthquake<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;during the past 25 years, and was followed just <em>44.6 hours<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;later<\/em> on December 27th by a very intense gamma ray burst,<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;which was 100 fold brighter than any other in the past 25 year<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;history of gamma ray observation. It seems difficult to pass<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;off the temporal proximity of these two Class I events as being<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;just a matter of coincidence.&nbsp; A time period of 25 years<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;compared to a time separation of 44.6 hours amounts to a time<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;ratio of about 5000:1.&nbsp; For two such unique events to have<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;such a close time proximity is highly improbable if they<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;are not somehow related.&nbsp; But, as mentioned above, gravity<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;waves would very likely be associated with gamma ray bursts,<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;and they would be expected to <em>precede<\/em> them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span face=\"Georgia\">&nbsp; &nbsp; Many have inquired<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;if there might be a connection between these two events (e.g.,<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.space.com\/scienceastronomy\/bright_flash_050218.html\">Space.com<\/a><br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;article).&nbsp; Not thinking of the gravity wave connection,<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;astronomers have been reluctant to admit there might be a connection<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;since they know of no mechanism by which gamma rays by themselves<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;could trigger earthquakes.&nbsp; They admit that the December<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;27th gamma ray burst had slightly affected the ionization state<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;of the Earth&#8217;s atmosphere, but this by itself should not have<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;caused earthquakes.&nbsp; However, if a longitudinal gravity<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;potential wave pulse were to accompany a gamma ray burst, the<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;mystery becomes resolved.&nbsp; The connection between earthquakes<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;and gamma ray bursts now becomes plausible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span face=\"Georgia\">&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; In his<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.etheric.com\/LaVioletteBooks\/EUF-CD.html\">1983 Ph.D. dissertation<\/a>,<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Paul LaViolette called attention to terrestrial dangers of Galactic<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;core explosions, pointing out that the arrival of the cosmic<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;ray superwave they produced would be signaled by a high intensity<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;gamma ray burst which would also generate EMP effects (e.g.,<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etheric.com\/GalacticCenter\/Galactic3.html\">Page 3<\/a>).&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;He also noted that a strong gravity wave might be expected to<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;travel forward at the forefront of this superwave and might be<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;the first indication of a superwave&#8217;s arrival.&nbsp; He pointed<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;out that such gravity waves could induce substantial tidal forces<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;on the Earth during their passage which could induce earthquakes<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;and cause polar axis torquing effects.&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><span face=\"Georgia\">[Please note, the gravity potential gradient<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; associated with a stellar explosion or core explosion would drop<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; off in intensity inversely with distance traveled (according<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; to 1\/r), and would not drop off as the inverse cube of distance<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; as some have claimed on the internet.&nbsp; That is, it does<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; not have a force-distance dependence similar to the lunar tidal<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; force.&nbsp; So the impact would be quite significant.&nbsp; The<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; mathematics are worked out in the above reference.]<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span face=\"Georgia\">In his book <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.etheric.com\/LaVioletteBooks\/Book-EUF.html\">Earth<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Under Fire<\/a><\/em> (as well as in his dissertation), LaViolette<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;presents evidence showing that the superwave that passed through<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;the solar system around 14,200 years ago had triggered supernova<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;explosions as it swept through the Galaxy.&nbsp; Among these<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;were the Vela and Crab supernova explosions whose explosion dates<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;align with this superwave event horizon.&nbsp; He points out<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;that these explosions could be explained if a gravity wave accompanied<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;this superwave, it could have produced tidal forces which could<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;have triggered unstable stars to explode as it passed through.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span face=\"Georgia\">&nbsp; &nbsp; He wrote at a<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;time when gamma ray bursts had just begun to be discovered, and<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;when no one was concerned with them as potential terrestrial<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;hazards.&nbsp; In recent years scientific opinion has come around<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;to adopt LaViolette&#8217;s concern, as can be seen in news articles<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;discussing the SGR 1806-20 gamma ray outburst, e.g., see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.space.com\/scienceastronomy\/bright_flash_050218.html\">Space.com<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;news story<\/a>.&nbsp; They note that if this gamma ray burst<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;had been as close as 10 light years it would have completely<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;destroyed the ozone layer.&nbsp; By comparison, the Galactic<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;superwaves LaViolette has postulated to have been generated as<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;a result of an outburst of our Galaxy&#8217;s core and to have impacted<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;the Solar system during the last ice age would have impacted<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;the solar system with a cosmic ray electron volley having an<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;energy intensity 100 times greater than this hypothetical 10<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;light year distant stellar gamma ray burst.&nbsp; &nbsp;In<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;comparision, SGR 1806-20 has been estimated to have a stellar<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;progenitor mass of 150 solar masses, whereas our Galactic core<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;has a mass of 2.6 million solar masses.&nbsp; In its present<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;active phase, SGR 1806-20 is estimated to have a luminosity 40<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;million times that of the Sun, whereas during its active phase<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;the Galactic center could reach luminosities of 400 trillion<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;times that of the Sun.&nbsp; &nbsp;So it is understandable that<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;if the Galactic center were to erupt, it would produce a gamma<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;ray burst and a gravity wave far more intense than the outburst<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;from this star.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span face=\"Georgia\">&nbsp;
