The surface<br \/>\ntemperature is approximately 9,900\u00b0F (5,500\u00b0C). The outer atmosphere of<br \/>\nthe Sun (which we can see during a solar eclipse) gets extremely hot<br \/>\nagain, up to 1.5 to 2 million degrees. At the center of big sunspots<br \/>\nthe temperature can be as low as 7300 \u00b0F (4300 K, 4000 \u00b0C). The<br \/>\ntemperature of the Sun is determined by measuring how much energy (both<br \/>\nheat and light) it emits. <\/p>\n<p>The sun has been determined to be about 4.5 billion years old.&nbsp; The<br \/>\nearth and the sun are of the same age having formed at the same time<br \/>\naccording to existing theory.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>The sun emits electromagnetic radiation and charged particles.<br \/>\nFrequently, the sun will flare and brighten and an explosive flare will<br \/>\nemit the energy equivalent of&nbsp; millions of 100-megaton Hydrogen bombs.\n<\/p>\n<p>Stars like the sun are considered to be stable over their life<br \/>\ncycles.&nbsp; &nbsp;The outward pressure of gases in the solar wind balances the<br \/>\ninward force of gravity.&nbsp; Lucky for us.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><strong>Novas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From time to time a white dwarf star will accumulate too much<br \/>\nhydrogen gas from a neighbor and this results in a tremendous explosion<br \/>\nof this gas shell that brightens the star in the heavens.&nbsp; This is what<br \/>\nwe know as a nova.&nbsp; It usually occurs at the final stages of a star\u2019s<br \/>\nlife cycle.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, do we know all that we need to know about novas?&nbsp; What happens<br \/>\nif a cloud of hydrogen gas of unusually high density were to engulf our<br \/>\nsun.? Could a mini-nova result in the expulsion of a shell of gas that<br \/>\nwould burst like a firestorm through the solar system?&nbsp; Although it<br \/>\nseems unlikely, studies of ancient history seem to indicate variations<br \/>\nin solar output that may have produced catastrophic changes on earth.<br \/>\nEven today, a variation in solar luminosity is occurring and scientists<br \/>\nreport that the slight increase in solar output may be contributing to<br \/>\nclimate change and global warming.&nbsp; There is some evidence that some of<br \/>\nthe other planets in our system are also experiencing warmer<br \/>\ntemperatures and climate change.&nbsp; These changes could be the result of<br \/>\nincreasing accumulations of cosmic dust through which our solar system<br \/>\nis passing.<\/p>\n<p>Deciphering the Mayan symbols seems to point to a coming catastrophe<br \/>\nin the the winter solstice of our year 2012 that involves changes in<br \/>\nour sun and its effects on the earth. This is such an immense subject<br \/>\nthat my research on it continues in spurts.&nbsp; To summarize the<br \/>\npredictions it can be said that a recurring event may cause the change<br \/>\nin our sun.&nbsp; That event, known as the grand crossing, is synchronized<br \/>\nto the precession of the equinoxes.<\/p>\n<p>This is such an immense subject that my research on it continues in<br \/>\nspurts.&nbsp; To summarize the predictions it can be said that a recurring<br \/>\nevent may cause the change in our sun.&nbsp; That event, known as the grand<br \/>\ncrossing, is synchronized to the precession of the equinoxes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here is a description of that event:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs there something significant we should know about the Winter<br \/>\nSolstice date of December 21, 2012? Yes. On this day a rare<br \/>\nastronomical and Mayan mythical event occurs. In astronomic terms, the<br \/>\nSun conjuncts the intersection of the Milky Way and the plane of the<br \/>\necliptic. The Milky Way, as most of us know, extends in a general<br \/>\nnorth-south direction in the night sky. The plane of the ecliptic is<br \/>\nthe track the Sun, Moon, planets and stars appear to travel in the sky,<br \/>\nfrom east to west. It intersects the Milky Way at a 60 degree angle<br \/>\nnear the constellation Sagittarius. The cosmic cross formed by the<br \/>\nintersecting Milky Way and plane of the ecliptic was called the Sacred<br \/>\nTree by the Maya. The trunk of the tree, the Axis Mundi, is the Milky<br \/>\nWay, and the main branch intersecting the tree is the plane of the<br \/>\necliptic. Mythically, at sunrise on December 21, 2012, the Sun &#8211; our<br \/>\nFather &#8211; rises to conjoin the center of the Sacred Tree, the World<br \/>\nTree, the Tree of Life.. <\/p>\n<p>The galactic center and the Great Rift contain&nbsp; great clouds of<br \/>\nhydrogen gas and dust, the substances out of which stars are formed.<br \/>\nThese clouds partially block our view of the bright stars that crowd<br \/>\nthe galactic center.<\/p>\n<p>The great rift of the Milky Way begins near Deneb and extends SW<br \/>\ndeep into the southern Milky Way ending near Alpha Centauri. The dust<br \/>\nclouds of the rift are probably 1,000 light-years distant in Cygnus,<br \/>\nand approach us in Aquila, Scutum, Sagittarius and Scorpius, where they<br \/>\nare only a few hundred light years away. <\/p>\n<p>The Eagle Aquila is dusted with dark nebulae, ancient star cities,<br \/>\nstellar outbursts and the faint puffs of exploded stars. Aquila is on<br \/>\nthe celestial equator and cuts through the great rift of the Milky Way<br \/>\nwhere it runs NE &#8211; SW. Aquila is poor in clusters, rich in faint<br \/>\nplanetary nebulae, and loaded with dark nebulae. <\/p>\n<p>This rare astronomical event, foretold in the Mayan creation story<br \/>\nof the Hero Twins, and calculated empirically by them, will happen for<br \/>\nmany of us in our lifetime. The Sun has not conjoined the Milky Way and<br \/>\nthe plane of the ecliptic since some 25,800 years ago, long before the<br \/>\nMayans arrived on the scene and long before their predecessors the<br \/>\nOlmecs arrived. What does this mean? \u201c<br \/>(from: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crawford2000.co.uk\/maya.htm\">http:\/\/www.crawford2000.co.uk\/maya.htm<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Many do not think that anything special will happen, but others<br \/>\nbelieve that the Mayans recorded significant events and used precise<br \/>\ncalendars to forecast the recurrence of periodic cycles marked by<br \/>\nspecial events.<\/p>\n<p>Why would the intersection of our sun and solar system with the Milky Way\u2019s equatorial plane constitute a noteworthy event?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe auspicious year of 2012 indicated in the long count calendar<br \/>\nilluminates the fact that the Precessional movement of the Winter<br \/>\nSolstice Sun will gradually bring its position into alignment with the<br \/>\nvery center of our Galaxy. For the Maya, this is like the last stroke<br \/>\nof Midnight on New Year\u2019s Eve; only in 2012 the New Year is the New<br \/>\nGalactic Year of 26,000 solar years. The Galactic Clock will be at zero<br \/>\npoint and a New Precessional Cycle will begin.\u201d<br \/>(from: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kamakala.com\/2012.htm\">http:\/\/www.kamakala.com\/2012.htm<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Maurice Cotterell has studied the Mayan, Egyptian, and Incan lost<br \/>\nsciences of the sun and has&nbsp; determined that the sun goes through<br \/>\ncycles of magnetic reversals and changes of direction.&nbsp; He believes<br \/>\nthat the ancient calendars show how the earth was destroyed 5 times due<br \/>\nto the sun\u2019s twisting magnetic fields.&nbsp; (from: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mauricecotterell.com\/synopsis06.htm\">http:\/\/www.mauricecotterell.com\/synopsis06.htm<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>The last piece of the puzzle that may explain why the sun will react to this event comes from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etheric.com\/LaViolette\/LaViolette.html\">Dr. Paul LaViolette<\/a> in his book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etheric.com\/LaVioletteBooks\/Book-EUF.html\">Earth Under Fire<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a nutshell, the book is about LaViolette&#8217;s dissertation subject,<br \/>\nbeing [about] the effect of periodic galactic core explosions &#8212; the<br \/>\nperiod being roughly 26,000 years &#8212; which send out shells of cosmic<br \/>\nrays (chiefly in the form of electrons moving at near light-speed) that<br \/>\nare hundreds to thousands of light-years thick (the thickness being the<br \/>\nduration of that particular galactic core explosion).&nbsp; The effect of<br \/>\nthis constant blast of cosmic rays &#8212; once the shell hits our solar<br \/>\nsystem which is 23,000 light-years from the galactic core &#8212; is to push<br \/>\ninterstellar dust into the inner solar system (the dust is normally<br \/>\nkept out by the pressure of the solar wind). The result of this dust is<br \/>\nvery major, in a number of different ways, including 1) increased<br \/>\nflaring of the sun in the style of T-Tauri stars, 2) a downshift toward<br \/>\nthe infra-red in terms of the solar radiation reaching the Earth, and<br \/>\n3) a significant deviation from normal in terms of the total solar<br \/>\nenergy reaching the ground.<\/p>\n<p>The last shell passed the Earth roughly 14,000 years ago, marking<br \/>\nthe end of the last ice age, and causing all the major physical changes<br \/>\nrecorded from that time.\u201d<br \/>(from: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etheric.com\/LaVioletteBooks\/EUF-reviews.html\">http:\/\/www.etheric.com\/LaVioletteBooks\/EUF-reviews.html<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Protostars which are starting to blow away the gas and dust<br \/>\nsurrounding them are called T-Tauri stars. The warm dust remaining<br \/>\naround T-Tauri stars still radiates in the infrared.
