A): \u201cScientists aboard the NOAA research ship<br \/>\nPiscis found a sub adult sperm whale 77 miles due south of the Deepwater<br \/>\nspill site.&#0160; NOAA will analyze skin samples to determine if the whale<br \/>\ncame from the oil zone.&#0160; However, due to decomposition and shark<br \/>\npredation, NOAA will not be able to determine a definitive cause of<br \/>\ndeath.&#0160; The charred appearance of the whale is a natural occurrence due<br \/>\nto the sun and heat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a development potentially related to the<br \/>\nBP oil spill, a recent news report <a href=\"http:\/\/www.floridaoilspilllaw.com\/2-baby-sperm-whales-dead-after-beaching-themselves-on-floridas-east-coast-infections-and-toxins-are-going-to-be-the-big-killers-of-these-animals-says-pathologist-videophotos\" onclick=\"return top.js.OpenExtLink(window,event,this)\" target=\"_blank\">stated,<\/a><br \/>\n\u201ctwo baby sperm whales died [on June 23,<br \/>\n2010] after beaching themselves on Florida\u2019s East Coast; \u2018Infections and<br \/>\ntoxins are going to be the big killers of these animals\u2019 says<br \/>\npathologist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The BP Gulf of Mexico oil catastrophe has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aolnews.com\/surge-desk\/article\/whale-sharks-latest-animals-threatened-by-gulf-oil-spill-5-othe\/19538817\" onclick=\"return top.js.OpenExtLink(window,event,this)\" target=\"_blank\">endangered<br \/>\nboth whales and dolphins<\/a>. There are<br \/>\n300,000 to 400,000 sperm whales worldwide. According to one <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/06\/18\/us\/18whale.html?_r=1&amp;partner=rss&amp;emc=rss\" onclick=\"return top.js.OpenExtLink(window,event,this)\" target=\"_blank\">source,<\/a><br \/>\n\u201cThere are an estimated 1,700 sperm whales<br \/>\nthat live in gulf waters and they are known to congregate particularly<br \/>\nat the mouth of the Mississippi River, a rich feeding ground. Unlike<br \/>\nother whales, which travel long distances, these live full-time in the<br \/>\ngulf and do not usually mingle with sperm whale pods in the neighboring<br \/>\nCaribbean and Sargasso Sea.
