How can the moon ring like a bell if the moon has no atmosphere and medium in which to transmit sound waves? How can any sound be heard on the moon and how would they have known it rang like a bell when it was struck if it didn’t have an atmosphere?
Several earthquake monitors, planted in the Moon’s surface, recorded physical vibrations that had the same pattern as a ringing bell.
Roger, I am a skeptic, but solids and liquids also transmit sound. So ‘the moon rings like a bell’ wouldn’t be impossible, you’d just need something to pick up sound waves in a solid object, which like John said, isn’t a trick at all. Like listening to an iron rod on an old car engine to “better hear if a rod is broken”.
